I think you need to distinguish the difference between being racist and being critical. On your case, its just critical – you see the things they do are pointless compared to things they could do which are productive. If anything, this seems to demonstrate you do love your people as you are pointing out the flaws they have and explaining why its bad.

I am Chinese and things I cannot stand are how we:
- lack manners
- lack respect for the law

However, I would not say this is racist, merely criticising the flaws of Chinese people. There’s a difference

I’m from australia and let me just tell you its not just african americans who do this. We have a welfare system that asks no questions and anyone can bludge their life away – Black or white.
We don’t do the bling so much here lol, but there are things my fellow aussies do that get me cranky too.

There are very few black people who do EVERYTHING you describe and many who do none of those things. Your problem appears to be gross over generalization and horrendous stereotyping.

The problems you mention (minus fashion perhaps) are very real social problems, but that is hardly the way "black people are". And there are plenty of non-blacks who act just the same way.

you hate it because you know others will use that to stereotype those that don’t do those things. my buddy who is mexican has a dad who hate mexicans, he is always talking about "those damn cholos" with a thick mexican accent. I’m white and get shit from black and mexican friends about being some rich yup from the suburbs when I live in the ghetto, like i play tennis and wear a sweater around my neck all the time, just so you know i don’t, and i, because of my friends, hate the damn yups with sweaters on their necks.

Please do not stereotype all of us. I know you hate the "Ghetto" types but not all of us are like that. I am not one to buy namebrand outfits and live in the projects. I don’t have a luxury car nor have crazy nails or hairdos. I haven’t blinged out my teeth either nor do I have several kids and live on welfare. I only live with one man and we have been together for a long time, not sleeping with several. As for language you will never hear me utter a cuss word. You need to associate yourself with better people and quit assuming all of us aren’t doing something with our lives. Don’t say you are racist please. Just say you hate that some black people are ghetto.

I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL….BELEIVE ME! I’m Filipino and I can tell you that there are a ton of stupid things that my people do also. If you don’t beleive me just look at some of my questions and answers on Yahoo Answers!!

Anyways, I don’t think that you are necessarily wrong for feeling the way that you do. In fact there are some good things to these feelings because it shows that you care about how your people are preceived. Lets face it you can’t change who you are. Sometimes you might think that it sucks to be who you are. But criticism of your race shows that you care about yourself by showing self respect as an individual dispite such negative stereotypes.

Yeah its tough to get others to see you and not the stereotypes of your people. Beleive me, at times I hate things about my race, but I have self respect and I show that I care about myself by pointing out negative things of my people. And trying to persevere through those negative traits!

You can’t help what people do. Everyone is different no matter of their color. All blacks don’t buy expensive cars living in an apartments. All blacks aren’t on welfare. So you need a reality check. You need to open your eyes.

Other races do the same things. They just use other words to justify it so it doesn’t look that bad. Then on top of that it’s overlooked, but when a black does it oh what a crime shame look at two tattoos on her body, when some other race can have an entire collage on their body.

Unearthly joy I agree with you. Im also mixed with the same races. People of all races behave inappropriatley, its a matter of environment not race. You should surround yourself with better company, instead of people you feel acts this way. Being racist against your own ethnicity does not make sense-you will always be apart of it.

Let me only state that I hear you, and as an educated black man I think you are right and wrong.

It is embarrassing every time we see another black person doing something illegal or stupid. But you see, it is embarrassing for every race to see their own people doing that stuff. One major difference between us and them is that the media, movies, and videos always portray us as that guy doing that thing. There is almost never a camera around when a white guy is arrested, a black person does something stupid, cameras all day on the 5, 6, and 10 o’clock news.

Blacks traditionally don’t have much. This is partially our fault, partially not. I had a friend in high school whose mother made him sell drugs because there are no businesses he could work at in the hood and they had no car. He had to support his mother and siblings, only 1 employer hired someone with the limited clothing and transportation that he had.

White criminals rarely live a life of crime out of necessity. Some like the thrill, others are trying to get over, still others commit crimes without having the chance at getting caught. Sure, there are blacks with the same situations, but there are a lot fewer of us doing it out of want than out of necessity.

Many of our youth have no fathers. They aren’t even persuaded to do well in school. How can a man make money with no education or discipline? He has to hustle. Can’t get a real job. You can’t pay rent on minimum wage, especially if you have a family. You get more money and cheaper rent on welfare than McDonalds.

So this guy was born into poverty, had a loser for a mother, no one for a father. Never learned in school because he was always taught that only punks and nerds cared about school. Not like they sent good teachers to these schools, so where is he supposed to learn the value of education? Not at home, not at school, no where. So then what, he gets to 16 and realizes there are three types of people in his neighborhood. Those that work at McDonalds having to catch the bus or driving a car that may or may not start. Those that are walking around drunk or high or only living to get drunk or high. And those that are driving that luxury car, the only symbol of status in this kinda neighborhood. These are the guys that sell drugs, bootleg, and hustle for a living.

You might hate that some CHOOSE to stay at the bottom, but not everyone chooses everything. I was lucky, you are probably lucky. When you were 10, if someone asked you would you rather drive a new BMW/LEXUS or a beat up YUGO/ESCORT I guarantee you wouldn’t pick the latter. 4 years earlier, if someone said you could either go play/watch tv or do your homework/chores I guarantee you would pick the fun with. Cause you haven’t learned the to pick the other one yet.

Jewelry, rims, loud music, nice cars, nice shoes, etc. All of these are status symbols. I have status symbols too. My car, my clothes, my investments, my neighborhood. There’s not much difference between us, I was groomed for one, they weren’t groomed for any thing. It’s a miracle that some of us make it out. Through all of this, some of us do better. Some of us make it.

You do realize we have only been equal members of society for 30 years right? This society they have been equal in for 120 years we just got the right to go to college, get jobs after college, get loans to open businesses, and have the same hobbies as them. We are almost 100 years behind them. My father wasn’t allowed to go to the library where he got his PhD. They have never had that problem except when there was no library. They have inheritances, trust funds, college funds, etc. What do we have? A 1% chance at making it. Still far more than 1% actually make it. I’m impressed by my people more than I am embarrassed by them.

Does it make me racist toward my own if I kinda look down on some other white woman who happens to be a trashy skanky redneck you know what that has the brains of a doorknob? Nope.

It’s not racist to not support the behavior of all and any. There are certain things that people *should* be trying to work their way out of and not be glorified for it.

Anyone who does support such behavior…that only helps the situations stay around longer while they do nothing but b*tch and moan about it, with no action to try to change anything.
