Some days ago I found this article on “The Times”. It (talks) about problems that children have at school especially in English and Math.

I didn’t (hear) about (earth) hour on 28th of March. (Defending) our planet is important. In my small way I separate the household waste, I also try to save energy and water. What about you?

Have you heard anything about the earthquake hit L’Aquila last night?
I live in the near region, Molise, and here we felt the biggest earth tremor. Now our schools are closed to do the appropriate controls.
I am still scared. There are about 200 people dead, 1500 wounded and about a thousand of people that now have nothing.

Dear Aspasia,
I’m sorry for taking so long to reply to you, I don’t have a lot of free time at the moment: I’m studying a lot for the end of the school year, and for my English exam.

Some days ago I found this article on “The Times”. It mentioned problems that children have at school, especially in English and Maths.
I remember a similar situation in my country. In fact some years ago, INVALSI, a government body, started to give to all the Italian students (especially elementary school students) some tests on the basis of their age. The tests were on Maths and Italian, and didn’t affect their final Italian and Maths grades; they were done to work out their education level. Last year, when I did my exam for the end of Italian middle school, I did INVALSI tests about Maths and Italian, the difference being that these tests can affect the final grades as well as showing our education level.
In my opinion it is very important to at least know how to write and read, but now, in the third millennium, we must go ahead: we must know the languages and know how to use computers. This is because times are changing and needs are changing too. A good education is the first step to have a better society and a better world. What do you think about this?

In your past letter you told me about some of your dreams and goals. They are very interesting. I completely agree with your opinion about dreams that cannot be limited.
You also told me about your consciousness in following such a career which is commonly recognised as a “men’s job” and that you are determined to follow your dream. I agree with you and I am tired of hearing that women are the weaker sex. I absolutely don’t think so.
Woman can do the same that the men do.
I believe in the emancipation of women. I don’t believe in the stronger and weaker sex. I hate the people who try to beat the women, and deprive them of their life and their nature. Women are like men. No one is better than another person.
We are in 2009 and, in my opinion, women can have a work, freedom of thought, and freedom of speech.
But enough about that. My dreams for the future are go to study and live in England and have a rewarding job. I’m still undecided about my future work.
Have you got a part-time job and a wage now?

I’m sorry for the delay in answering your mail but now my spare time is quite limited: I’m studying a lot for the end of the school year and for my English exam.

Last year when I did my exam for the end of Italian middle school, I did INVALSI tests in Maths and Italian the difference being that these did affect the final grades, and show our education level.
In my opinion, it is very important to at least know how to read and write, but now, in the third millennium, we must go further: we must know the languages, and how to use a computer because times are changing and the needs are changing too.
